UNESCO Interactive Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger


Here's the view from the United Nations. All Alaska Native languages can be found on the UNESCO Interactive Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger. Only Yup'ik shows as "vulnerable", the best of the five categories.

I suppose it makes sense to treat Siberian Yupik as endangered because of its small population, but I think it still deserves to be “vulnerable” given the extensive use among the local population. There’s of course the issue with how well children are learning it today, but to know that we need some survey work done on the ground.
