Board of Regents to endorse adoption of the name Troth Yeddha'

The agenda for today's University of Alaska Board of Regents meeting in Fairbanks includes the following motion:
“The Board of Regents approves the naming of the ridge that runs east/west and is the site of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and UA systemwide office building as Troth Yeddha’. This motion is effective February 15, 2012.”
To my knowledge this would represent the first time that the university has officially endorsed a Native place name.

Elsewhere in the state, the Senate Finance Committee will hear testimony on SB 130, which would establish an Alaska Native Language Preservation and Advisory Council. The hearing will take place in Room 532 of the State Capitol Building in Juneau at 9:00 AM. The toll free call number to call in (listen only) is 855-493-5009. You can also track the status of the bill online.
