House passes bill creating Alaska Native Language Council

The Alaska State House of Representatives today voted unanimously to approve a bill creating the Alaska Native Language Preservation and Advisory Council. The bill passed with one amendment:
    Section 2, letter f: “The department shall provide staff as needed to support the council; the staff must demonstrate competency in an Alaska Native language.”

The bill will now go back to the Senate for a vote and then will be transmitted to the Governor for his approval.
